Airbag Module Reset
Airbag Module Reset Service — Crash Data Reset for All Makes & Models
Airbag module reset performed by Dan Karman — SRS crash-data reset specialist since 1999, online since 2006. Full bench reset process documented on our YouTube channel. Reference updated April 2026.
If your airbag light is on after an accident, your SRS / SDM / ORC / RCM / ACM / SRSCM airbag module may have stored crash data, deployment records, or an internal crash lock that cannot be cleared with a normal scan tool. Karmanauto clears crash data directly from the original module memory and returns your same module plug-and-play in most cases. We service all major makes including GM, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti, Subaru, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and more.
After a crash, the airbag control module stores non-volatile crash records: deployment commands, pretensioner fire records, impact event history, and internal lock flags. A scanner can clear normal open/short circuit codes after the vehicle is repaired, but it usually cannot erase crash data stored inside EEPROM or flash memory.
Our bench reset reads the original module, saves the original data, removes the crash records, verifies the reset, and returns the same module ready to reinstall once the vehicle’s deployed parts are repaired.
Our all-makes mail-in service handles crash-data reset across every major airbag control module type, including SRS, SDM, ORC, RCM, SRSCM, and ACM modules. Common service requests include crash data reset, SRS module reset, airbag computer reset, deployment record removal, and seatbelt pretensioner crash record reset.

Seatbelt locked or airbag deployed? Read before shipping.
Airbag module reset clears crash data inside the control module. It does not repair fired airbags, locked seatbelts, deployed pretensioners, bad impact sensors, broken wiring, or unplugged connectors. Replace or repair deployed SRS components before reinstalling the reset module.

What the reset actually clears
Our reset clears crash-related data stored in the airbag control module: deployment records, crash event memory, pretensioner fire records, rollover/side-curtain deployment records where applicable, pyrotechnic battery disconnect records where applicable, and internal lockout/event flags.
Our reset does not repair physical vehicle faults such as deployed airbags, locked seatbelts, fired pretensioners, broken wiring, open squib circuits, faulty impact sensors, unplugged connectors, passenger seat sensor faults, configuration mismatch, or water-damaged / burned modules.
The Karmanauto Airbag Module Reset Process
- Intake and inspection: module is logged by order number and checked for water, burn, corrosion, or connector damage.
- Bench communication: module is powered and communication is verified where possible.
- Pre-reset read: stored SRS data and memory are read and backed up.
- Crash data reset: crash/event records, deployment records, and lockout data are cleared at memory level.
- Post-reset verification: reset data is saved and communication is checked again.
- Return shipping: original module is packed and shipped back.
Warranty, Turnaround, and Shipping
Our guarantee: Your module data is backed up before and after reset under your order number. We guarantee the crash-data reset and provide a free recheck if reset integrity is questioned. This is not a lifetime warranty and does not cover vehicle wiring, deployed airbags, fired seatbelt pretensioners, bad sensors, passenger seat sensor faults, configuration mismatch, wrong installation, or physically damaged modules.
Turnaround: Same-day processing for most modules received before 2pm when communication and reset are successful.
Shipping: Include your order number, name, phone, return address, vehicle year/make/model, and VIN in the box. Ship only the airbag module. Do not ship airbags, seatbelts, or pyrotechnic parts.

Airbag Reset — Quick Answers
Can an airbag module be reset after a crash? Yes, when the original module is readable and not physically damaged.
Can a scan tool clear crash data? A scan tool can clear normal active faults, but crash/event records stored internally usually require bench reset.
Do I need dealer programming? Most original-module resets are plug-and-play because your original configuration is retained.
Will this unlock my seatbelt? No. A fired pretensioner must be replaced or rebuilt.
Do I send airbags? No. Send only the control module.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an airbag module reset?
An airbag module reset clears crash data, deployment history, and internal crash lock records from the original SRS control module after an accident.
What is crash data?
Crash data is the event record stored by the airbag module after a deployment-grade collision. It may include deployment commands, impact records, pretensioner firing records, and lockout flags.
Will the airbag light go off after the reset?
Yes, if the only remaining issue is stored crash data and all deployed or damaged SRS components have been repaired or replaced.
What if the airbag light comes back on?
Read the code and contact us with your order number. We save before-and-after module data by order number and can recheck the reset if needed.
Can you reset a used donor airbag module?
Crash-data reset is for your original module. If you are using a donor module and need VIN or configuration copied, that may be airbag module cloning, not standard reset.
What should I ship?
Ship only the airbag control module, also called SRS module, SDM, ORC, RCM, ACM, or SRSCM. Do not ship airbags, seatbelts, or pyrotechnic parts.
What if my module is water damaged?
Water damage, fire damage, broken connectors, burned boards, or no-communication modules may require repair or replacement. Crash reset only works when the module is readable and repairable.
Do you reset hybrid and EV airbag modules?
Yes. Hybrid and EV airbag modules can usually be reset the same way as gas vehicles, but any high-voltage crash safety repairs must be handled separately on the vehicle.
