Volvo Airbag Module Crash Reset & Repair Service — All Volvo Models 1995–2026
Volvo airbag module reset performed by Dan Karman — Volvo SRS / RCM module specialist since 1999, online since 2006. Full reset process documented on our YouTube channel. Reference updated April 2026.
Every Volvo SRS airbag control module from 1995 through 2026 can be bench-reset after a crash when the module is readable and not physically damaged. Volvo commonly calls this unit the Air Bag Control Module, Multiple Restraint System Control Unit, Restraint Control Module, RCM, Diagnostic Unit, or SDM Module. Common Volvo airbag module part-number families include 306xxxxx, 307xxxxx, 312xxxxx, 313xxxxx, 314xxxxx, and 323xxxxx modules. Karmanauto clears crash event data, deployment records, and internal lockout flags directly from the original Volvo module memory and returns it plug-and-play in most cases.
Why you need a bench reset, not just a VIDA / scan-tool clear
After a deployment or impact, the Volvo SRS / RCM airbag control module can store crash event data, deployment history, seatbelt pretensioner events, pyrotechnic battery disconnect records, and internal lockout information. VIDA or a capable Volvo scanner may clear normal active faults, but stored crash data and deployment records usually require bench-level memory reset.
Our service reads the original Volvo module, clears crash data and internal event records, preserves original configuration where applicable, and returns your same module ready to reinstall.
Covers Volvo SRS / RCM airbag control modules — common 306, 307, 312, 313, 314, and 323 part-number families. Crash data cleared, deployment records removed, resettable SRS hard faults repaired, same original Volvo module returned.

Include your order number in the box with your Volvo SRS / RCM module.
Reset & Returned
We clear crash data, verify communication, and return your original module.
Seatbelt locked or stuck? Read this before you ship.
If your Volvo seatbelt pretensioner fired, resetting the module alone will not unlock or repair the belt. The fired belt or pretensioner must be replaced or rebuilt. Our service clears the module’s crash record and pretensioner-fire record; the physical deployed component must still be repaired.
Important Volvo issue — “SRS-Airbag Service Urgent” is not always crash data
Volvo vehicles commonly show “SRS-Airbag Service Urgent” after a crash, battery event, module communication issue, DIM/instrument cluster issue, or internal SRS module fault. The message alone does not prove crash data is the only problem.
Our crash reset clears crash/event memory in the SRS / RCM module. It does not repair a failed DIM cluster, broken CAN wiring, damaged CEM communication, bad seat occupancy sensor, open squib circuit, or physically failed SRS module hardware. If the module has internal hardware failure codes such as SRS-00D1 / SRS-00D5 / CFFF, it may need module repair or replacement rather than crash-data reset only.

When You Need a Volvo SRS Airbag Module Reset
Volvo SRS light stays on after an accident
If the SRS warning light or “SRS-Airbag Service Urgent” message came on after a collision, fender bender, curb strike, seatbelt pretensioner event, or airbag deployment, the Volvo RCM / SRS module may contain stored crash data that will not clear with normal scan-tool commands.
Volvo seatbelt is locked after impact
A locked Volvo seatbelt after an impact usually means the pretensioner fired. The module records that event, and the belt assembly itself must be replaced or rebuilt.
Volvo SRS light on after airbag replacement
Replacing airbags or seatbelts does not automatically clear the module’s internal crash history. The original Volvo SRS / RCM control unit still needs to be reset if crash data is stored.
Volvo pyrotechnic battery disconnect triggered
Some Volvo models can store SRS records related to pyrotechnic battery cut-off or battery disconnect activation after a crash. The fired pyrotechnic device must be replaced; the SRS module may also need crash/event reset.
Dealer quoted a new SRS / RCM module
Dealer replacement can be expensive and may require configuration. In many cases, resetting the original module is faster and more cost-effective when the module is readable and not physically damaged.
Volvo airbag part-number coverage:
Common Volvo SRS / RCM airbag control module part numbers include 30658913, 30613049, 30667469, 30724652, 30773786, 30782384, 31264861, 31295109, 31334738, 31340841, 31476261, 32246116, and 32315746. If you are unsure, send a clear photo of the module label before shipping.
Volvo SRS / RCM Airbag Module Part Number Family Explained
Volvo OEM catalogs commonly list the airbag computer as an Air Bag Control Module, Multiple Restraint System Control Unit, Restraint Control Module (RCM), Diagnostic Unit, or SDM Module. Common Volvo part-number families include 306, 307, 312, 313, 314, 322, and 323 series modules. The sticker number on the housing may not always match the scanner/catalog number exactly, so the safest method is to confirm by VIN, module label, and VIDA/module identification when available.

Volvo SRS Diagnostic Trouble Code Reference
Common Volvo SRS codes below are examples seen during SRS crash reset and post-crash diagnostic work. Volvo codes are often shown in VIDA-style format such as SRS-00D0, SRS-00D5, SRS-0115, or SRS-0211. Exact meaning can vary by model year, platform, and scan tool. Crash data, deployment records, and internal event memory require bench reset; physical circuit faults must be repaired in the vehicle.
Crash / internal SRS module records
- SRS-00D0: SRS control module configuration / internal data fault pattern, often seen after crash data, programming conflict, or internal data corruption
- SRS-00D1: SRS control module internal fault / internal communication fault pattern
- SRS-00D5: Communication fault with SRS control module / internal module communication fault pattern
- CFFF: Severe internal SRS control module fault pattern on some Volvo diagnostics
- Crash data stored: Internal event memory after airbag, curtain, side-impact, pretensioner, or battery disconnect event
- Module locked: SRS module remains in deployed/crash state until memory is reset or module is repaired
Driver / passenger airbag circuits
- SRS-0101 / SRS-0105: Driver or passenger airbag circuit fault pattern
- SRS-0115 / SRS-0117: Side airbag / side impact airbag circuit fault pattern on many Volvo references
- Airbag resistance too high: Open circuit, unplugged connector, broken clockspring/contact reel, or damaged wiring
- Airbag resistance too low: Short circuit or incorrect resistance in deployment circuit
Crash sensor / satellite sensor faults
- SRS-110B / SRS-110C: Crash sensor communication fault pattern
- SRS-120D / SRS-1210: Crash sensor incorrect signal pattern
- Front crash sensor fault: Front impact sensor signal/circuit fault after front-end damage
- Side impact sensor fault: Door/B-pillar/side satellite sensor fault after side collision
- Rear / rollover event stored: Internal event memory after rear, curtain, or rollover-type deployment on equipped models
Seatbelt pretensioner & pyrotechnic devices
- SRS-0211 / SRS-0215: Seatbelt pretensioner fault pattern
- SRS-01D0: Activated pyrotechnic battery cut-off / pyrotechnic battery disconnect record on equipped models
- Pretensioner fired: Physical deployed belt/pretensioner must be replaced or rebuilt
- Seatbelt buckle / tensioner circuit fault: Wiring, connector, or deployed device must be repaired before the light stays off
DIM / cluster / warning-message related issues
- 00D4 / 00D5 in DIM context: Common Volvo instrument-cluster communication/fault pattern that can display an SRS warning message
- SRS warning message with DIM fault: May require instrument cluster/DIM repair, not airbag crash reset
- No communication with SRS module: Check power, ground, CAN, CEM/DIM communication, and module hardware before assuming crash data
Voltage / wiring / communication faults
- SRS-0010 / SRS-0012: Low or high voltage to SRS system pattern
- SRS-0020: Open circuit in SRS wiring pattern
- SRS-00CF: Grounding or short circuit issue pattern
- CAN / CEM communication fault: Vehicle network issue must be fixed before reset can be confirmed
What the reset actually clears
Our reset clears crash-related data stored in the Volvo SRS / RCM module: deployment records, crash event memory, pretensioner fire records, pyrotechnic battery disconnect event records where applicable, and internal lockout/event flags.
Our reset does not repair physical vehicle faults such as broken wiring, open squib circuits, faulty impact sensors, bad seatbelt pretensioners, unplugged connectors, failed DIM/instrument cluster, failed CEM communication, or a water-damaged / burned SRS module.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Volvo airbag module be reset after a crash?
Yes. Stored crash data can usually be cleared from the original Volvo SRS / RCM module if it is readable and not physically damaged.
Can VIDA clear Volvo crash data?
VIDA or a capable Volvo scanner can clear normal active faults, but crash/event records stored internally in the module usually require bench reset.
What if my Volvo has SRS-00D0, SRS-00D1, SRS-00D5, or CFFF?
Those codes can point to internal module configuration, communication, or hardware faults. Some are repairable; some are not simple crash-data resets. Send the code report and module label before shipping if possible.
What if my Volvo has SRS-Airbag Service Urgent but no crash?
That message can be caused by crash data, DIM/cluster faults, CEM/CAN communication faults, seat sensor faults, or wiring problems. The module should be diagnosed before random parts are replaced.
Do you fix bad wiring, deployed parts, or seat sensors?
No. We reset the module. Physical vehicle faults and deployed components must be repaired separately.
What should I ship?
Ship only the SRS / RCM airbag control module. Do not ship airbags, seatbelts, or pyrotechnic parts.

Very satisfied with the 2006 Volvo S40 T5 AWD SRS module reset service. Module had the internal fault code CFFF which none of the handheld code readers at the local Euro auto repair shops could clear. Reset service in my case cleared the fault code and 14 other codes and made the module fully functional again. Volvo dealer quoted $1200 to replace and program the SRS module. Well worth it to DIY (check youTube for removal steps) and give the reset service from KARMANAUTO a shot at restoring the module and save a bunch of cash.
