Subaru ECU Clone Service
Subaru ECU Clone Service — transfer supported ECU data from the original ECU to a compatible donor ECU when the original can be read. We transfer supported VIN, immobilizer/key data, flash, EEPROM, coding, and tune data when available. We support many Subaru Denso and Hitachi ECU families across SH7058, SH72531, and related processors — covering many Subaru models from roughly 2000–2025, depending on ECU type, part number, processor, and donor compatibility. In many cases, cloning can avoid dealer replacement/programming when a compatible donor ECU is available.
Available Services
Also useful:
- Subaru IMMO Sync Service — if you need to virginize BIU, cluster, and ECU together for an all-keys-lost or full-system reset.
Not Sure Which Service to Choose?
If you are unsure which option matches your Subaru module, the safest path is to email or text us photos before ordering:
- Full label of the original module (the one you want serviced)
- Full label of the donor module, if you already have one
- The part number, hardware revision, and software/calibration sticker
- Photo of the connector pinout if visible
We will confirm whether the service is supported for your specific part number and hardware revision before you order and ship.
Compatibility Warning
Part number and hardware revision compatibility matter. Cloning and many programming services only work when the original module can be read AND a compatible donor of the same hardware family is available — for example, Denso to Denso, Hitachi to Hitachi, SH7058 to SH7058, SH72531 to SH72531. Mismatched part numbers, different processors, or different hardware revisions typically cannot be cloned. If unsure, send label photos so we can verify compatibility before you ship.
What to Ship
- Your original Subaru module (the failed/locked unit), clearly marked “ORIGINAL”
- If applicable: a donor module, clearly marked “DONOR” — same part number family and hardware revision as the original
- Your order receipt printed, or order number written on a slip in the box
- Your return shipping address
- Ship to the address shown on your order receipt at checkout (we operate from 2 locations and route based on tool availability and turnaround)

FAQ
How do I know if my Subaru ECU is Denso, Hitachi, SH7058, or SH72531?
Look at the label on the side of the ECU. It will typically say either DENSO or HITACHI, plus a chip part number such as SH7058 or SH72531. Many 2002–2014 Subarus use Denso SH7058. Many 2013+ Subarus use Denso SH72531. Some years overlap — send us photos of your ECU label so we can confirm support for your specific unit before you order.
Will my tune transfer?
When the original ECU can be read, the Subaru ECU Tune Clone service transfers supported flash and tune data to the donor when available. This generally works for common aftermarket tune formats (Cobb AccessPort, EcuTek, OpenSource, RomRaider, etc.) on supported hardware. Some encrypted or protected tune files may not transfer — send us details about your tune setup if you want us to verify before ordering.
Will my keys still work after clone?
When the original ECU is readable, we transfer supported VIN and immobilizer/key data to the donor so existing keys typically continue to work without a re-learn. Some configurations may require additional BIU sync (see our Subaru IMMO Sync service).
Do I need a donor ECU?
Yes — cloning is a copy operation, so you need both your original (data source) and a compatible donor (data destination) of the same hardware family. We do not currently stock donors for every model. Source one from a wrecking yard, eBay, or salvage with a matching Subaru part number, same Denso/Hitachi/SH7058/SH72531 chip, and same hardware revision when possible.
What if my Subaru ECU is completely dead?
Even if the ECU does not power up or communicate with a scan tool, the Flash and EEPROM are often still readable at the chip level. Ship it in — we will tell you up front whether the data is recoverable. If the data cannot be read, cloning is not possible and we will let you know before charging full service.
Turnaround?
Same-day processing for ECUs received before 2pm in most cases. Total ship-to-running is typically 2–4 business days. Overnight shipping in both directions can compress this further.
